After collaborating on numerous projects over the years, Jim Thompson, Ezra Smith, Tommy Loughborough and Ashley Reville have integrated their fifty + years of combined experience in the marine industry into Newport Yacht Collaborative. By bringing together design, build and project management under one roof, Newport Yacht Collaborative offers clients a seamless experience in yacht refit and rebuild, from concept through delivery. Cutting edge processes such as laser scanning, 3D design and CAD/CAM manufacturing combine with the best traditions of New England boat-building to create truly bespoke solutions in a process that maximizes project efficiency and minimizes yard time.
Ezra Smith has been involved in the design of some of the world’s finest yachts since 2002, first as a designer at Fontaine Design Group in Portsmouth, RI and since 2009 as Principal of Ezra Smith Design. Through a lifetime of sailing and a deep understanding of the technical and aesthetic elements of yacht design, Ezra brings an artist’s eye and designer’s discipline to all of his projects, delivering thoughtful and creative solutions for his clients.
James Thompson has been building, restoring, and repairing yachts for over 25 years. Operating J. Thompson Marine Carpentry in Newport RI since 2003, James and his crew of craftsmen have worked on many superlative yachts. Pursuing challenging projects, developing original solutions, and delivering a high level of execution have been driving forces for James. He finds a hands on approach best suited for his building and project management style.
Ashley Forbes Reville started her career in the marine industry back in 2008. She has since crossed the Atlantic, sailed through the North Pacific and raced in various superyacht regattas across Europe and the Caribbean. Back on land, Ashley worked with both clients and contractors at the Newport Shipyard in her roles as purchasing manager and project coordinator. Ashley’s expertise on land and at sea provides her with valuable insight into both sides of the industry. Now managing CaptureRI, Rhode Island’s premier 3D interactive scanning partner, she has leveraged these experiences to deliver top of the line services and a wealth of knowledge to the marine sector.
Tommy Loughborough has been involved in all aspects of Yacht Racing over the past 17 years. Whether on a J Class Super-yacht or foiling dinghy, he brings the same commitment to process and teamwork required of the worlds most respected competitive programs. The values of safety, seamanship and performance developed over a thousand regattas define his Project Management style for the Newport Yacht Collaborative. Born in Singapore and fluent in French, Tommy is comfortable leading a project anywhere in the world with very diverse teams.
